In online poker or poker in general for that matter so many players do not understand that fact you win slow and lose fast.  You may be thinking “what do I mean” so let me break it down.  Many poker players refer to playing as a grind.  They sit long periods of playing cards just to turn a small profit and not all the time you profit.  Most good cash game players feel you need to play more than 8 hr a session to be profitable.  To win a large MTT you need to play 5 hrs.  on the low side, and sometimes even days on the high side.  With all that being said, it takes a long time to be a winning player.  You must put in the work to get the results you are looking for “WINNING”.  Just like a job; you have to grind it out at the cash tables or grind deep into that tournament.  Now with Sit & Go’s out there you can get your payout in up to an hour but it only takes one hand to knock you out.  You still have to put in some time to win and get good at winning.  Now I just mention getting knocked out in one hand.  That is losing fast, it only takes one hand.  In a world of bad poker players BAD BEATS HAPPEN.  Another factor effecting losing fast is the players trying to win right then not seeing the long grind ahead of them.  There are lost of other things effecting why you lose fast.  My point is it only takes one bad mistake on your part and sometime another player’s part followed by them getting lucky to send you packing.  Have you ever bubbled just before the money in a tournament because you thought your all in on the button would push out the blinds and you could rake them in, only to get called by the big blind with AA and your gone.  You lost FAST.  






So what does this mean for you as a poker player.  You must have patients and you must start to add all the other fragments of the game to your game.  No longer just the cards, your position, the other players, there stack size, your stack size, and all kind of other things.   You must make better decision, this means make more folds, pick better spots to raise and re-raise, and stop bluffing.  You must win slow.  With the amount of bad players online you can wait and pick good spots to make your moves, someone will usually make a mistake you can capitalize on and rake in there chips.  If you start to pay attention to the patterns at the table and see what the other players are doing you can start to gauge you move more accordingly.  Wait for a player to make the mistake, don’t be the player making the mistakes.  Play what I have heard called ABC poker.  Pick better hands, pick better spots, pick weak players, raise of fold instead of call, and if you don’t have it LAY IT DOWN. 
Now let’s talk about what outside things can aid in us losing fast.  You can still lose fast even if you are playing good but there is usually something that is affecting you losing.  Think about things that might affect your game and aid in you losing fast.  Here are some things that came to mind.






Playing when I am tired.

Playing when I am angry or had a bad day.

Playing out of my limits.

Playing after a bad beat.

Playing when I am watching my kids!!!


That is just a few things that come to mind that affect my game.  Try to identify things that affect your game and eliminate them before you play or recognize them when you play (like bad beats) and focus on the task at hand “WINNING”.  Last bit of advice DON’T GIVE UP.  You will be surprised good thing come to those who wait.  When short on chips don’t just shove the next hand, try and pick a good spot and a good player to shove all in, it will pay off in the long run.

When playing online poker you need to always keep in the back of you mind that you win slow and lose fast.  Keeping that in the back of your mind will help you make better decision at the table.  Take your time as a player it will pay off in the long run.
