Keeping Matters Simple
There is a theory known as Occam's Razor which essentially states that the simplest solution is often the best to use and this runs true for poker players. All too often poker players over think and over complicate matters for themselves when a more direct and simple move would be suffice.

This often stems from the fact many players' first experience of the game is through televised poker tournaments or cash games that are heavily edited to show the action as being loose-aggressive when quite the opposite is usually true. This in itself leads people to believe that the only way to play poker is to make elaborate plays, run huge bluffs and continually double-barrel with nothing but eight-high! Playing like this will not see you achieve good results in the upcoming Betfair GSOP VI

Although it does not get as much credit as it should the tight-aggressive style is one that is relatively simple yet extremely effective, especially in a tournament scenario. Even the very best players in the world struggle to exploit a solid tight-aggressive player (TAG). Playing a TAG style will by its very nature see you have much simpler decisions to make both preflop and post flop and the simplest decisions are usually the best and most effective.

As mentioned in the opening paragraph a large percentage of poker players over complicate matters instead of keeping everything simple. For example, when faced with a flop such as 4h-7h-Tc and they are holding a pair of black jacks some players will start to double think themselves and want to get tricky by trying to check-raise their opponent off of their draw or bet small to induce a semi-bluff raise when the best, and simplest, course to take would be to bet enough to deny their opponent the correct odds for calling the bet! Another example, albeit a very simple and possibly exaggerated one would be to say if you have the best hand bet, if you do not then do not bet.

Of course there will be times where you do need to think on a whole different level, maybe at the final table of the Betfair Grand Series of Poker Main Event but for the most part keep your approach to the game simple and you will have a much less stressful time at the virtual felt!
